Cape Town School of English, based in the main business area of Claremont, is a language school specialising in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The school was established in 1991 and is a proudly small and personal Institution, owned and run by South Africans.
Claremont is about a 15 minute drive from the centre of Cape Town. It’s also easily accessible from town by train, and Claremont’s Main Road is a hive of activity as taxis joust for clientele. The train runs all the way along the Southern Suburbs line to Muizenberg, famous for its surfers and warmer waters.
The school is situated close to the upmarket shopping malls – Cavendish and Cavendish Square, which offers a marvellous range of designer shops, banks, movies, internet café’s and restaurants, enough to suit all tastes. The quaint Victorian shop fronts and many interesting and upmarket businesses in the area lend this part of Claremont a cosmopolitan feel. With many different activities and sights to visit, including the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the Cricket and Rugby stadiums, the national Beer Brewery, the University of Cape Town and other major colleges, not far from the school, hiking up our impressive Mountain, there is plenty to do and see. Claremont has a residential feel to it as well and is a safer area for our students, also closer to the Homestay accommodation families.
Being one of the first EFL schools in S.A. we have a long and well established reputation as a small Institution, offering personal interaction, excellent teachers and a comfortable environment for study and travel. Our students register to do short (2 week) or long (six months to 1 year) courses. Students come from all parts of the world. An any given time our Institution represents the world and it’s peoples.

We have a selection of English-speaking homestay families that stay close to our school. In most cases students would need to use public transport. The homes are in safe areas and we try to place students close to one another.
Homestay accommodation includes:
Breakfast and Dinner, the airport pick-up, a furnished and private room with linen and laundry services.
The families include the students in their social outings and interact with the students on a daily basis. We certainly recommend homestay accommodation. Usually we place 1 student with a family but upon request 2 students can share a room in a family home. We try to accommodate all special requests such as allergies to pets, vegetarian or other requirements.
Some students prefer to stay privately and do their own catering. We assist with links and advice on this too.
Hotels, guesthouses, backpackers
Hotels, Guesthouses or backpacker accommodation can also be booked on behalf of the students. Up-to-date prices on all the accommodation options could be made available to students who wish to book such accommodation. Please e-mail us your requirements.
