Course coordinator: English Access Gauteng

One year full-time contract (renewable dependent on funding)

Key functions:

The incumbent will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of all language courses within English Access Gauteng. He/she will be responsible for the design of courses, development of course material, management of teachers as well as operational aspects including HR and general administration.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree, preferably in the field of Linguistics or language studies
  • A certificate in language teaching (CELTA or TEFL)

Experience:

  • 5 years’ appropriate teaching experience

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that clients receive good customer service from their first arrival at the school to the point at which they leave, particularly with regard to the academic programme
  • Manage placement testing and allocation of students to appropriate classes
  • Implement EAG policy, and effectively communicate these to teachers and students
  • Serve as a key point of contact for all teachers and students – hold regular meetings to gain feedback and take pro-active, positive action to address any issues that arise
  • Arrange for inductions of new teachers; lead regular teacher training workshops
  • Manage and motivate the teaching team, providing support as necessary as well as feedback on performance,  with appropriate developmental plans
  • Ensure effective scheduling of classes, extra-curricular activities and events
  • Curriculum development
  • Maintain accurate records for academic and staff management

Skills:

  • a good grasp of theoretical linguistic knowledge within the field of ELT
  • exceptional competence in the design, organisation and delivery of language programmes
  • ability to develop appropriate resource materials in a range of media
  • ability to critically observe teachers’ performance in the classroom and provide constructive feedback
  • ability to deal with student queries regarding academic programme and their performance
  • demonstrable knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • proficiency in the use of educational technology in the classroom
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • mother tongue or near mother tongue English language proficiency

  • ability to communicate well and interact positively with people
  • ability to meet deadlines
